Profile dimension measurement by robot
The Voortman V808 robotic thermal cutting machine is equipped with the new faster and more accurate versatile Panasonic TL-1800G3 coping robot. The torch nozzle of the robot is fitted with a measuring sensor to measure the exact profile dimensions. The difference between actual measured profile dimensions and theoretical dimensions are compensated during the cutting process to ensure the most accurate result possible. To save time, the coping robot only measures the sides of the profile that will actually be processed.

Powerful measuring and clamping system
The Voortman V808 is equipped with a powerful roller feed measuring and clamping system. This fully automatic measuring roller feed system is the fastest positioning system as it does not require a pusher or gripper to return home before loading the next piece saving hours each week. The measuring system operates fully automatic within the range of 10 mm (3/8”) till 500 mm (1911/16”) by 60 mm (223/64″) till 1250 mm (497/32). The maximum positioning weight of the roller feed system is 15.000kg/33.000lbs which makes this measuring and clamping system more flexible and powerful.

Optical and disk profile measuring
A measuring disk which automatically moves to the correct height is installed at the clamping position for accurate length measuring. The front measurement is carried out by laser measurement fitted straight after the feeder roll and on the robot.


The V808 is designed with two cutting areas in which the profile can be processed on 4 sides completely from front to back. This means that no material is wasted while it can’t be processed. Next to this, the V808 can be equipped with sliding roller conveyors to reduce the minimum infeed and outfeed length from 2.500 mm (100 inches) to 1.400 mm (55 inches) in full automation in combination with cross-transports and in- and outfeed roller conveyors.

The Voortman V808 robotic thermal cutting machine is equipped with the agile Panasonic TL-1800G3 coping robot. Due to the fact Voortman has added two extra axes on top of the six axes of the Panasonic robot itself the machine has a very wide reach. This new robot is lighter and has more accurate encoders for higher accuracy and better cutting quality. Also the base frame of the Voortman V808 has been redesigned; the robot is no longer mounted in the back of the cabin but in the front. Besides this, the top beam where the robot is mounted is even more rigid than before, which reduces vibrations to a minimum. During cutting, the robot is now programmed to always position itself as close to the top beam as possible, this again results in better cutting quality.

The Voortman V808 offers advanced integration with High Definition plasma cutting and high quality bolt hole cutting with the Voortman Xtensive Hole Performance. Holes cut with Xtensive Hole Performance (thickness versus diameter 1:1 or less) comply with taper tolerances as defined in the EN 1090-2 and AISC.

After importing DSTV files straight from your 3D modelling software the Voortman V808 can start producing immediately without any editing by the operator. Importing DSTV files is standard included in the VACAM operating software. The Voortman V808 does it all


The Voortman V808 doesn’t need a clean cut with every new product in a nesting. Besides reducing the scrap to a minimum this is also a time saving option as the last cut of a product is also the first cut of the next product.

The Voortman V808 robotic thermal cutting machine can cut all sorts of structural steel beams without need for a drilling and a sawing machine. To process the complete raw material lengths the Voortman V808 has two completely free processing areas for processing the front- and backend of the raw material with only one measuring unit. Since the Voortman V808 can process all four sides of the material with only one robot it is the most versatile machine on the market. All cuts and profiles as seen in the videos can be done without manual programming in the software. Due to the fact Voortman has added two extra axes on top of the six axes of the Panasonic robot itself the machine has a very wide reach and can place itself underneath the raw material loaded on the roller conveyor. This is a very big advantage compared to other machines on the market.

Another big advantage is the lay-out marking on four sides, when only marking three sides assembly personnel still need to measure manually on the fourth side of the profile. The Voortman V808 can handle all four sides which will save time and costs in the assembly area of your workshop.

The Voortman V808 is a machine that can do the same operations, depending on requirements, as the following machines: Beam sawing machine, Beam drilling machine, Flat and angle punching and shearing machine, Beam marking machine, Plate cutting and drilling machine.


Push the button and start the complete process
After loading the DSTV or DSTV+ (completely nested) files into the processing list of our VACAM operating system, and loading the (optional) cross-transports with raw material the machine can be started with just one push on the start button. After this, the operator doesn’t have to do anything to help the production process but unloading finished products from the outfeed cross-transports.

Fully automatic profile transportation
Mechanical drag-dogs are used to transport the profiles onto the in-feed roller conveyor and of the out-feed roller conveyor. Detectors in the drag-dogs enable automatic transport of the profiles from the cross conveyors to the in-feed roller conveyor and into the machine, as programmed in the VACAM operating software. Selected products will then automatically be produced out of the trading lengths. After the process drag-dogs detect the profile and transport the finished product onto the out-feed conveyors. The cross transports are long enough to carry multiple profiles, allowing the machine to operate on its own for a considerable time.

Plasma is rapidly becoming a preferred cutting technology worldwide. Plasma cutting ensures a faster cutting process then oxy-fuel at a lower thickness range and is possible with mild steel. The plasma source for the Voortman V808 robotic thermal cutting machine is equipped with the latest technology called High Definition plasma. The technology High Definition gives the plasma arc more stability and energy and even higher quality cutting results are possible.

The Voortman V808 robotic thermal cutting machine can optionally be delivered with an oxy-fuel cutting system. The thin and long design of the oxy-fuel torch enables it to reach parts of the profile, which the plasma torch cannot reach due to its size. Switching the oxy-fuel torch with a plasma torch and vice versa can be done in a minimal amount of time.

For oxy-fuel cutting Voortman added proportional valves for automatic setting of pressures to eliminate manual intervention. Gas required for cutting is fed through a magnetic valve with backfire protection. An automatic ignition and pressure limiter on the burner unit prevents over pressurization of the system.

Despite upcoming processes like laser cutting and plasma cutting, oxy-fuel cutting is still one of the most used cutting processes in the steel industry. The consumables are not expensive, the initial investment is relatively low and the process is simple. With a product thickness of more then 50 mm we will use oxy-fuel cutting.

Every machine in the Voortman delivery program is equipped with the VACAM Operating Software. As a result all machines have the same “look-and-feel” which significantly reduces the learning curve for the end user.

The VACAM operating software is a Voortman development and is completely developed in house. It is the result of decades of experience in steel machinery and is continuously optimized by adding new technologies. Because VACAM is an open platform, an API can be used to easily exchange production data between VACAM and ERP or MRP packages. It allows the user to monitor production in real-time. This information can also be used to compare estimates made during the quote stage of a bid with real production times.

Product data of DSTV-format which for example is exported from 3D modelling software can be imported directly into VACAM in a clear and structured way without any adding or editing of the data in between.

The VACAM Office Edition is developed in the same style, and works in a similar way as the VACAM Machine Edition. It can be installed at the office to create products and monitor the production process in real-time. The VACAM Office Edition has a reduced user interface, because it is not used for machine control.

VACAD Editor is a flexible drawing tool, integrated in VACAM. It can be used to create and modify contours, holes, imprints, marks etc. for drilling, cutting and layout marking processes. The VACAD module shows the actual dimensions and is a pleasant tool to work with. Created contours can be saved in templates, which can also be inserted in other products.
